Furniture Slipcovers Can Transform Your Home In An Instant!
by: Caroline Smith
These days furniture slipcovers can be found for seats of all shapes and sizes, from wing backed chairs to sectional sofas, from loveseats to ottomans. Fitting a new slipcover to a favorite piece of furniture offers a simple yet effective way to instantly improve its appearance and give it a fresh lease of life. Ready made slipcovers for sofas and chairs are the cheapest option, but even having fitted slipcovers custom made can be relatively inexpensive, especially when compared to the costs of re-upholstery or buying a whole new suite. A real benefit of a slipcover is that it can be easily replaced whenever you fancy a change, or if it needs to be washed.
Furniture in many rooms can be slipcovered. In the family room, sofa slipcovers, as well as looking pretty, have the practical function of protecting your existing fabric from everyday wear and tear. Why not buy a few sets of discount slipcovers if you’ve got pets of small children? That can be an affordable way to always ensure you have spare furniture covers in case of accidents! Most modern slipcover materials are designed to be easy to care for and are fully machine washable. It can be worth spending a bit more on hardwearing fabrics such as cotton, particularly for seats that get used regularly. Why not look for matching recliner chair covers for a stylish, coordinated look?

It’s fun taking something apart and putting it back together again in a new creative way. I work in an office where we had a lot of old promotional type posters that were very expensively matted and framed. Now that we’re moving to a new office we wanted something new, but didn’t want to spend a lot of money decorating. We decided to disassemble the old frames and re-use the mats to frame new prints.
We made a visit to a local craft store and found an abundance of inexpensive artwork in all sizes, ranging in price from $1.49 to $40.00. Definitely within our budget. We picked out several beautiful floral prints and framed them with the old mats and frames. Disassembling the old prints included tearing off most of the prints that had previously been glued to the mats, but I just tore it all off and used scotch tape to tack down the new prints.

No commentsWhy Egyptian Cotton Is Still King
by: Patricia Bowlin
Egyptian cotton has become wildly popular for bedding in recent years. Why exactly? Does it really matter?
It was thought for ages that cotton was cotton and thread count was king when choosing quality sheets. That is no longer true. Consumer guidelines for buying bedding suggest that cotton from Egypt is superior to other cotton. Is this true and, if so, what is the big difference?
Egyptian cottons are used to create bedding of all types from sheets to pillowcases to comforters. The long staple or long fiber of Egyptian-grown cotton means that there is more continuous fiber to use when creating threads or yarns. This yarn is smaller in diameter yet stronger than other cottons. Smaller yarn means that more threads per square inch can be use to create stronger fabric which is light in weight yet breathes well.
More threads per inch mean that the thread count on the bedding label will be higher. Many buyers think that choosing high thread count sheets is the only gauge of quality. This is not true, but in the case of cotton grown in Egypt, the higher thread count means the fabric will be incredibly strong and will last for years and years. If cared for properly, Egyptian produced cotton fabric used for creating bedding products can last for decades.
No commentsAlthough any loan used for buying real estate is strictly called a purchase money mortgage, the term is often employed for seller financing, those transactions in which you “take back” a mortgage as part of the purchase price. These arrangements are suitable, of course, only when you do not need your proceeds immediately toward the purchase of another home.
Taking back financing could make your property easier to sell during a difficult mortgage market. You might hold out for a higher sale price or interest rate, because your buyers will have fewer closing costs than usual. And sometimes your income tax situation, particularly with investment property, makes it advantageous to receive the proceeds over a period of years.
But seller financing is sometimes sought by buyers who cannot qualify for regular financing, and then the question arises: if a bank won’t trust them with a loan, why should you?
A large down payment, of course, represents some safety. If you ever had to foreclose, the debt might be covered by the sale of the property. And asking for a large down payment serves to separate strong buyers from those who are weak financially — unless, of course, they’re going out and borrowing the down payment elsewhere. In that case they could end up with unmanageable payments, which would put your loan in danger.
No commentsShower Doors - How to Combine Practicality With Style
by: Caroline Smith
Shower doors come in a variety of different designs, according to the style of a particular bathroom. As well as choosing a door that fits in with the look of your room, how it actually opens is an important consideration. This depends on the layout of the room and the amount of space available. For instance, folding shower doors have to be able to open outwards, to prevent the user becoming trapped inside. There must be sufficient space to do this without hitting any existing bathroom fixtures, such as your sink or cabinets.
For smaller bathrooms, a sliding shower door could make more efficient use of limited space. Sliding or bypass doors can be fitted over a bathtub or to a shower stall. They operate by using rollers to glide along tracks. Although space-saving, because the panels overlap and dirt can get trapped in the tracks, it can be tricky to keep them clean. For better accessibility, trackless shower doors are an option. These accordion style doors have the advantages of no tracks to trip over or keep clean.
No commentsRemodeling a Bathroom
by: Richard Rigor
So you’ve decided that it’s time to update your bathroom. Whether you’re planning to sell your home or you’ve simply decided your family needs a more updated space, there are a few important decisions you should make before you start.
First of all, consider what needs to go (no pun intended). Are you remodeling because all of the fixtures- tub, shower, toilet and sink- are outdated? Or is there a specific area of the bathroom that doesn’t work for you? Maybe the floor is outdated or peeling, or the mirrors are in inconvenient places, or you’d like to knock out a closet or install some shelving. Before you start, pin down the exact things about your bathroom that need work. Don’t immediately assume you need to overhaul the entire room. You may be able to save yourself big bucks by starting with the problem areas.
No commentsDriveway Landscaping
by: Janeth Duque
Landscaping driveways does not necessarily mean the driveway itself, although the design of your driveway can impact the look and feel of your landscape. Rather, many people neglect to landscape their driveways to look attractive. This includes adding landscaping elements to the sides of the driveway, as well as at the bottom and the top of the driveway. There are many softscape and hardscape elements that can be added to make the area surrounding the driveway more attractive.
Your driveway landscape is the entrance to your property. If you ignore it, the driveway can look more like an ugly scar than a part of your landscape. If properly incorporated, however, it is possible to create a nice looking element in your landscape, tying it in to the rest of your design and looking as though it truly belongs. It is very worth your while to make an attempt at landscaping around your driveway. You need not spend a great deal of money to landscape your driveway, but if you carefully choose features and elements that are attractive and creative, you can have a fairly low-cost driveway landscape that is inviting to visitors as well as to those who live inside the house.

Origin
The company Carlton Ware was formed in 1890 due to a partnership between J.F. Wiltshaw and J.A. Robinson. The company changed ownership several times during its century-old life. Today it is well known all over the world. Carlton Ware introduced this earthenware line of floral embossed patterns in the 1930’s.
Patterns were produced in either a green or yellow background and featured a range of floral patterns including: Fox Glove, Apple Blossom, Water Lily, Buttercup and Poppy.
Appeal
The vivid colours and floral patterns make this line of Carlton Ware as appealing today as it was in the 1930’s. This sturdy earthenware is used today for display and serving. Teapots, cream and sugars, tea cups, saucers, salt and peppers, toast racks, jam pots and a variety of serving pieces can still be found.
Quirky Fact
No commentsA beautiful wooden deck, properly maintained, can add greatly to the aesthetic and resale values of a home.
Just look around, decks are almost everywhere. Not just houses but both municipal and commercial facilities use wooden decks and walkways extensively. Because of this pressure washing decks can be a great profit center for your business or even the whole business.
The great news is that decks need maintenance. As beautiful as a wooden deck can be it can be a real eyesore if not properly maintained.
Why Decks Need Maintenance
When a wood deck absorbs water the natural resins and color can be washed out over time.
The combination of wood and water creates a food source for mildew, fungus and mold promoting their growth. Wood and water combined with dirt and even air pollutiom will also contribute to the proliferation of mildew, fungus and molds. One thing to remember is that a wet deck with a thick coating of mildrew is very slick and slippery. This creates one heck of a “slip and fall” liability problem. Keep this in mind when speaking to the decision makers of commercial and municipal facilities.
